Asman Gayo Mill: Aceh, Sumatra

Asman Gayo Mill: Aceh, Sumatra

from $21.00

We are so excited to introduce our first ever coffee from Sumatra, the Asman Gayo Mill! In our time as a business we have been searching for a Sumatra that we confidently could stand behind, but have usually been met with unsatisfying flavors of earth, wood, rubber in a large majority of samples we’ve tasted. However, this coffee surprised us while cupping blindly through many samples from our coffee importer friends at Cafe Imports. We initially guessed that this coffee was from Kenya with its savory juiciness and rich sweetness and we’re so pleasantly surprised we were wrong! We selected it and noted flavors of sweetened oolong tea, effervescent cola, and Concord grape jam and acidity.

Our First Sweet, Beautiful Sumatra

FROM OUR IMPORTER: This coffee comes from a small mill in the Pegasing district of Takengon, in Sumatra's coffee-famous Aceh region. The Asman Gayo mill serves several small coffee producers within the Pantan Musara villages. Several years ago, these producers were dislocated from their homes and land because of a natural disaster, and they have rebuilt their lives and farms with a new focus on coffee. Unlike the vast majority of other Sumatran coffee receiving and processing centers, this mill is producing Washed coffees, as well as Naturals.
